1.) The history behind the show!
2.) The way the story cuts from hilarious to dramatic within split seconds!
3.) Kenshin/Battousai . . . he's hot!
4.) It was the first anime I saw, so it holds a special place in my heart!
^^
i agree with most when we say the series goes downhill from ep 65, with only a
few random episodes that I truely enjoyed, but if it's the animation you don't
like, it is actually upgraded around the beginning of the Legend of Kyoto
arc.
And if you want to know why so many people believe Kenshin is our number one
samurai, just watch Samurai X (Kenshin's OVA series)!!
Fruits Basket, where Momiji is talking about how his mother chose to forget him.
He goes on to say that he could never do what she did, because even though
memories and events can be painful there will come a time where he will be able
to look back on them and see that they made him stronger . . . GAWD I cried
soooo much during that scene!
It's not widely known, but the main reason not many anime characters look
Japanese is done deliberately. I found the following in a proffesional essay
done by the curator of the njahs (National Japanese American Historical Society)
, Kenji Lui.
Anime/manga, is created purposefully to draw on a different sense of reality.
To make the reader/watcher believe that they are somewhere else, in a different
world. To do this, the characters are done differently to people in real-life,
to heighten that illusion.
Also not widely known, is that character's hair colours and eye colours
determine their personality.
For example, a character who has red eyes is not usually completely human.
A character with red hair, will have a fiery temper.
Purple eyes mean that the character is possed, by a higher entity or by extreme
emotions.
Yellow eyes mean that the character is dangerously powerful.
And so on. These are not set examples, as the saying goes, There is always an
exception to the rule, but guidelines to base character design around. I have a
huge list written by Takamara Shin (manga authority in Japan) floating somewhere
on my computer.
Vampire . . . one of the Children of the Millenium (think Anne Rice) So old,
and so powerful and so beautiful that I'm one of the few True Immortals to walk
the earth. And maybe for a change of pace, I'd attack wayward fledglings every
now and then, just to keep them in order!
Samurai X . . . gah! They killed Kenshin! You just don't kill Kenshin, he
wasn't even supposed to die! Stupid producers just went off and were like,
"Hey, let's kill Kenshin! That's never been done before!"
Hmm, I believe it was Robert Browing who said, "When God's in His Heaven,
all's right with the world." He was a 19th century poet and it's from a
poem he wrote called "Pippa Passes" In the poem, Pippa says the
phrase because she is really happy with the world around her, no matter how
cruel or mean the world actually appears to be.
I think Matt Greenfield says that NERV uses it because it's basically stating
the fundamental essence of the show in which God or enlightenment is removed
from the body. That is, God is in His Heaven; He is not here with us.
The leaf, is a fig leaf! Which means it's a Judeo-Christian symbol for original
sin. You see, in the Bible, God tells Adam and Eve not to eat from the Tree of
Knowledge, but they do so anyway and when they eat from the tree they learn
right from wrong. They realise they are naked and cover themselves with fig
leaves.
So in actual fact, the leaf represents humanity's fall from grace, but also
humanity's knowledge (prefectly depicted through NERV itself), which is being
used to counteract God.
I learned the above, some from my friend Kate who's a whiz on Evangelion, some
from what I read on the net, and I believe the magazine "Anime
Invasion" did an article on it too.
Okay, this will sound really weird but . . . the girl from Someday's Dreamers,
ah was Yumi her name? I dunno . . . but anyway, she seems lovely but just comes
across as pathetic, and those three random strands of hair on her head!!!
arghhh, ten minutes into the first episode and my fingers were just itching for
some siccors to cut those damn strands off!
Quote by GaiJiNEva is something apart,
like a philosophic essai of a genius which was greatly misunderstood, the show
isn't overrated, it's just that a lot of ppl like it for what it isn't supposed
to be .
I loved Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust!! The animation was superb, the character
designs unique and compelling, and the storyline addictive. Definately one of
my favs!
*whips out her copy and pops it in the dvd player*
Hmm, I'd say Spirited Away. There's just something about that film . . . that
and it reminds me of a japanese version of Alice in Wonderland, and I love that
story! ^_~ Oh, and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust . . . wowza! I'd have to say
that they're both my favourites. ^^
Although I must say, Spriggan did bore me, just a little ^^; But that's just
me!
I'd have to say Evangelion . . . because the series blows my mind. I love to
think things out, I'm just that kinda person, and I completely understand how
many people thought the ending was crap . . . myself? I thought it was
brilliant, a tribute to both the psychological quality of the show as well as a
reflection of the survial and genius of Hideaki Anno personal struggles, and its
creators.
Himura Kenshin . . . hands down!!!
but others worth mentioning are,
Gut's from Beserk
Walter from Hellsing (lol)
and
Sasuke from Naruto
^_^v
Okay, I love Kenshin because of . . .
1.) The history behind the show!
2.) The way the story cuts from hilarious to dramatic within split seconds!
3.) Kenshin/Battousai . . . he's hot!
